Russia Today - Business Briefing 2009

½ day event Thursday 12 November

More than 70 times the size of the UK, Russia stands at over 17m sq. km - one eighth of the world's surface. With a population of over 143m and an array of varied commercial centres from St Petersburgh to Vladivostock, Russia remains a key long term market of potential for UK business. The UK accounts for 2% of Russian imports and UK exports to Russia were valued at £4.1bn in 2008, making Russia the UKs 16th largest export market.

Russia has not been immune from the global economic turbulence. Indeed Russia's Deputy Economic Development Minister Andrei Kiepach stated in February 2009 "The GDP forecast has been downgraded to minus 22%".  In this way key industry sectors such as construction, machinery, building and metallurgy have been hit hard by the global economic crisis.

However opportunities still remain in healthcare, retail and infrastructural opportunities arising from the 2014 Sochi Olympics should not be dismissed. Positive economic reforms proposed by the Russian government could help to drive growth opportunities and market stablility helping Russia weather the global economic storm.

British goods will remain in demand regardless of the current economic climate dip, not merely for major UK companies but for SMEs with niche market goods and services.

This seminar is suitable for all companies wishing to expand their business to Russia or to strengthen their position in the market.

The session will give you the skills you need to visit Russia and how to run your business more effectively in Russia.
