Transport management – a quick win

A strategic masterclass for logistics manager and supply chain professionals taking place in Leeds on Tuesday 24 November 2009

Overview:

Developed from research conducted by the Logistics Research Centre of Heriot-Watt University this briefing examines how new approaches to transport management can help businesses gain financial and strategic benefits.

Freight charges alone can be the third or fourth highest cost item to a manufacturer and opportunities to reduce cost by improving the management of outsourced transport services are often missed.

Find out how, with very little investment and by applying straightforward techniques, you can:

  • Improve visibility of delivery dates
  • Manage delays in-transit
  • Address high and rising transport costs
  • Overcome the barriers to effective transport management

Learn how to:

  • Move away from being an ‘order taker’ – taking orders from logistics providers – to become an ‘order maker’ who exploits market conditions, obtains competitive prices and specifies service levels
  • Identify the 5 distinct cost aspects of transport and how to mange them
  • Get logistics providers to commit to service agreements
  • Consolidate transport movements to improve rates offered

Who will benefit from attending:

This masterclass will benefit people who are responsible for developing effective and efficient management of supply chains to gain competitive advantage and an increasing market share for the organisation. It will give ideas on how to lead in the creation of integrated supply chains and look at models for planning and improving new and existing networks and measuring performance.

People who will gain the most from attending will include those involved in Purchasing and Procurement, Logistics, Distribution, Production, Engineering, Sales and Marketing.

Presenters:
